Here are some of the copywriting precepts we follow …

Reports and brochures

  • Clearly define your target audience.
  • Think simple concepts and short sentences.
  • Rigorously edit your work, eliminating excess words, sentences and paragraphs.
  • Put the text aside for 24 hours, and edit it again for style.
  • Keep it short. White space is not wasted space: it will improve overall receptivity.

The Internet

  • As above, and then shorten all sentences and paragraphs by 50 per cent.

Slide presentations

  • Write your entire presentation in draft form.
  • Then start again, using only six slides.
  • Where possible, convert text to pictures.
  • Then fully or partially memorise the rest.
